About the Project
Project Description
The Gateway 286 Offsite Civil Works project is a developer driven City of Merritt project. Through establishment of a Local Area Service, the City’s water and sanitary sewer systems were extended to the Ranchland Urban Village (OCP Bylaw 2336, 2022).
The project included multiple stakeholders including the Upper Nicola Indian Band, Shackan Indian Band, Nooaitch Indian Band, Lower Nicola Indian Band, Coldwater Indian Band, Ministry of Forests, Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, Interior Health Authority, BC Hydro and others.
The project involved extension of the City’s sanitary sewer system from the City center to the southeast corner of the Coquihalla (Hwy 5) and Okanagan Connector (Hwy 5A) interchange. Construction included of approximately 2.3 km of 250mmØ PVC gravity piping, with four (4) directionally drilled crossings within the Highway 5/5A interchange and 34 manholes.
The water system involved connection from the City’s existing Southeast Reservoir to the new Gateway reservoir. Construction included a 400 USgpm booster station with a total static head of 144m, 1.2km of DR14 C900 PVC piping, 2.2km of DR18 C900 PVC piping, and a 1,990 m3 glass-fused to steel reservoir.
